People's Voice
People's Voice, which first took to the airwaves August 26, 1987, is a radio call-in talk show aired over the Voice of St. Maarten (PJD2 & PJD3) every Sunday morning on the AM & FM bands.
Produced by Rich Ent & hosted by LloydR., the show was a replacement for the island’s first call-in talk show “Issues” which was hosted & produced on PJD2 by Oral Gibbes, the island’s most popular television talk show host.
Although extremely popular at the time, “Issues” folded after approximately six months when Gibbes took a job as the island government’s chief information officer. Shortly thereafter People’s Voice was born.
After only a few months on the air, People’s Voice captured the attention of thousands of faithful radio listeners and has been consistently rated the region’s most popular talk show.
The crowning glory of the show’s many achievement’s took place on the evening of June 2, 2001 when LloydR won the Qualichi Award for St. Maarten’s Best Talk Show host. The other nominees were TV talk show hosts,Oral Gibbes and Beverly Hyman.
High-powered guests appearing on the show over the years include the Mayor of French St. Maarten Albert Fleming, numerous lt. governors, commissioners, senators and island council members as well as many dignitaries and other officials.
The show has also aired live from a few of the surrounding island’s, including interviews with the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, The Honorable Denzel Douglas, and the Chief Minister of Anguilla, the Honorable Osborne Fleming.
Many prime ministers and other dignitaries of the Netherlands Antilles were guests on the show over the years.
People’s Voice will celebrate it’s 20th anniversary on August 26, 2007.
